Family Portraits, Pictures of Seniors, Maternity, Kids and Pet Photos

 

I really enjoy taking pictures of people, young and old, from all walks of life. It is very interesting for me to meet them and hear their story and try to communicate to the view of the photos of who they are. I try and take the time to get to know them before we do our shoot so the locations we choose reflect their personality.

 

I really enjoy child photography and meeting this “little person”. Each kid is different. Some of the different locations I like to use are barns, fields, a family’s yard and in the studio.

Expecting mothers are wonderful to take photos of as well. Seeing the style of the mother and picking a pleasing location for the maternity pictures is important to me. I try to make things easy and convenient for them. I will typically take them in the comfort of their own home and will sometimes setup a backdrop in their home so it looks like they were done in my studio.

 

Family photography is always fun simply because no family is the same. All of the kids, the pets, babies and parents have their own unique and wonderful personalities and I try to provide families with modern and traditional poses. Rather than copy some portrait ideas found on Pinterest, I try and come up with my own ideas and talk to the mom. I will typically help coordinate the outfits. Even if the group is small or large, I find that just simple direction such as suggesting clothing options can facilitate the family pictures.

 

One thing that can take a lot of patience is pets. I ask the owners of the pets to walk their dog first so they will get most of their energy out. I will typically bring a small setup so I am able to take the portraits in the comfort of their home. Some natural settings outside at a park or in their private yard also make nice settings as well.

 

I really enjoy photographing seniors and spend a great deal of time trying to get to know them so I can find out what their likes and interests are. I usually will try and incorporate any hobbies they have into the shoot. My senior sessions are more editorial. What I mean when I say this is that I try and draw my inspiration from current magazines and particularly will follow certain fashion photographers to give them something that is cutting edge and traditional for the parents.
